On September 29, OpenAI introduced Dots, personal AI assistants powered by GPT‑6 Astra with their own cloud computer. They can continue assigned work between conversations. Access to your laptop requires a separate connection.
Who can access Dots
The getting-started guide specifies that Pro rollout initially excludes the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. Business Premium is supported across all available ChatGPT regions. In enterprise workspaces, including Edu and Healthcare, an administrator enables the beta. Having a subscription does not mean identical availability across countries and account types.
Proactive research and assigned work are different
OpenAI’s privacy documentation distinguishes proactive information gathering from task execution. Proactive research tools are restricted to reading: they cannot directly send messages, change app content or control a browser. Already authorized tasks may perform actions in the background under their applicable rules.
Connected-service permissions are shared with other ChatGPT experiences. Disconnecting a service does not erase information the assistant has already obtained. Pausing stops its work, while Reset deletes the assistant, its conversations, saved memories and scheduled tasks.
A useful first assignment
Our suggested first evaluation is to compare two public manuals for the same product and produce a linked list of changes. Specify the versions, the output format and that the result should not be sent to other people without a separate instruction. Then check several points against the originals: dates, referenced sections and conclusions.
This gives you a clear measure of usefulness: does the result make the changes easier to understand? It is a proposed evaluation scenario, not a report of our own Dots testing. Before using personal documents, also review our AI privacy checklist.
